Keep what works. Replace what holds you back.
Modernization
Legacy software keeps businesses running long after the people who built it have moved on. We move it to current languages and platforms, carefully, so it keeps doing everything it did before and becomes easier to change.
Proven in production
In 2016 we converted VoiceIt Technologies' voice biometric engine from Delphi to Java. Every original algorithm and its supporting code was converted and tested, and the new Java version was easier for VoiceIt to plug into its back-end systems.
How we approach it
- Map what it does. Document the current behavior, including the parts nobody wrote down.
- Pin it with tests. Write tests against the old system so the new one can be checked against the same results.
- Convert in stages. Move one piece at a time, so the business never waits on a single big switch-over.
- Run side by side. Compare old and new on real inputs before the old one is retired.
Platforms, too
Modernization is not only code. We move applications off retired hosting onto current cloud platforms, replace hand-run deployments with automatic ones, and bring old databases up to date.
